Fox Puts Today’s Bayern Munich Game On YouTube for Free

Take your victory lap now, cord cutters.

Soccer fans wanting to catch the German season opener online later today will not have to resort to dodgy, Russian-language streams.

Fox Sports, which has the US broadcast rights to the Bundesliga, Germany's top soccer league, has partnered with YouTube to livestream the season opener between defending champions Bayern Munich and Hamburg. This marks the first time that Fox Sports has livestreamed any major sport on YouTube, with the network telling Variety that it's "uber-excited" to work with YouTube to bring fans the game for free.

The livestream can be viewed by anyone in the US regardless of whether or not they have a pay TV subscription. This is a clearly attempt to get cord cutters, who are slowly destroying the pay TV business as we know it, to spring for Fox Soccer 2Go, Fox's $20 per month streaming service that grants access to all Bundesliga and Champions League games. It's a service I've used in the past with great success.

Coverage of today's game begins today at 2:30pm ET on Fox Sports' YouTube channel.
