Pittsburgh-based biohacking collective Grindhouse Wetware has just released a new video showing the full procedure for implanting the Northstar V1, a device about an inch across that lights up under your skin to highlight tattoos, mimic the bioluminescence found in fireflies or jellyfish, and just generally make you look like a cool cyborg.

When Motherboard last spoke to Grindhouse back in November, they were attending the Cyborg Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany and implanting the Northstar into Grindhouse member Shawn Sarver. Activated by a magnet, the Northstar consists of five red LED lights that glow for ten seconds before switching off.

The new Grindhouse video, which is not for the squeamish, begins with Grindhouse Wetware member Ryan O'Shea giving an update on the group's latest news, including being featured on an episode of MTV's True Life series ("True Life: I'm a Cyborg"). According to O'Shea, Grindhouse's recent press has generated a lot of interest in the Northstar, and the devices will be available "as soon as possible" for diehard body modifiers across the globe.

The rest of the video is footage of the implantation procedure for those curious about how it works. Even O'Shea admits it is "not easy to watch," so if you're okay with real-life body horror, watch on. Just don't say we didn't warn you.
