Last week hosted the Carnaval celebrations in Brazil, and my Facebook feed was burning up with updates from Brazilian friends who were in the middle of spending nearly a week partying. It’s as much of a blast as you’ve heard it is: I spent one Carnaval in a one-bedroom farm house packed with 30 people who drank 22 hours a day for five days straight, packing the streets of a small rural town every night with thousands of people, semi-trucks turned into mobile sound systems and everyone dancing and making out with everyone else (my awkward self not included).

It’s a bang and a half, and I wish I’d been able to enjoy it this year. Fortunately, I just watched this tilt-shift video from Rio’s Carnaval celebrations (curiously, it was filmed last year, but just posted last week). You get to enjoy what looks like Copacabana during the day, and the glorious marching of the samba schools at the Sambadromo at night, with plenty of partying in between. It’s a good application of the tilt-shift style because it kinda sort makes you feel like you’re there drinking Pitú out of a can and acting a fool.
