The Trump-Schwarzenegger Feud Shows How 'The Running Man' Predicted 2017

The 30-year-old movie saw Schwarzenegger facing off against a reality show host...sound familiar?

In bizarre celebrity gossip news of potential national importance, President Donald Trump and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger went at it again on Twitter today, highlighting once more how Schwarzenegger's cheesy 1987 sci-fi action movie The Running Man turned out to be oddly prophetic.

The movie, which is set in the year 2017, follows Schwarzenegger's character as he battles a faux-populist reality TV show host with deep connections to the US government. Sound familiar?

In real life, Trump came at Schwarzenegger on Twitter back in early January because The Celebrity Apprentice got lower ratings with Schwarzenegger as its new host than when Trump was there firing contestants.

Then this morning, Trump smack-talked Schwarzenegger again at the National Prayer Breakfast (yes—you read that correctly), saying "I want to just pray for Arnold, if we can, for those ratings."

Schwarzenegger's response was classically blunt, telling Trump the two should trade jobs (though of course Schwarzenegger, as a native Austrian, can't actually run for, nor serve as president, due to the US Constitution's requirement that POTUS candidates be natural-born citizens. But if he could have, he would've seized the opportunity!)

Let's just hope real life doesn't get as out-of-control as the movie.
