C-SPAN has dutifully broadcasted the minutia of federal politics since it launched in 1979. It has captured every aphorism-laden speech, every dubious promise, every non sequitur-stuffed argument, and every acceptance speech from the two major parties’ presidential nominees since the early 80s.

So, in the spirit of the 2012 Republican National Convention, (which is now running smoothly thanks to the hurricane forecasting systems those same Republicans want to defund), the venerable public access cable channel has edited together a reel of every such acceptance speech since 1984.

It’s striking how each of the ten-second snippets showcased here so deeply embody each of the candidates’ political styles—Reagan’s movie star-channeled grandeur, Gore’s mechanical awkwardness, Clinton’s thick Southern geniality, Bush’s semi-clueless good ol’ boyism, Barack Obama’s melodramatic soaring oration, etc.

Mashable notes that “The video isn't just political history, but time capsule of technology as well — watch as the clarity of the footage improves greatly over time. Do you think the 2016 nominations will be broadcast in 3D?”

So as long as Newt Gingrich is anywhere in the vicinity, we hope to God not.
