How Did Apple Music Fare in Its First Month?

11 million trial members make for a solid entrance, but can Apple keep the service valuable enough to subscribe to?

Actually, really quite well for just a month.

The company today told USA Today that it has already garnered 11 million trial members, of which 2 million have opted into the $14.99 a month family plan.

This is just in the first month of its release. For comparison, Spotify has about 60 million users, of which 15 million have paid subscriptions. Take note though: Spotify has been cultivating this subscriber base since 2009, and it's been in the US for four years. It's also wrestling with slow growth, and has yet to turn a profit.

Apple a built-in audience: the company has sold more than 1 billion iOS devices, and the service launched with a three-month free trial.

Now, if these 11 million trial members actually opt into paying for the service, the company will really have something to boast about.
