The Best YouTuber, Mr. Chi City, Is Back After a 5-Year Hiatus

SUP BROSKI. ;-)

YouTube was a very different place in 2008. Pewdiepie has yet to pave the way for others to make millions by playing video games on the platform, YouTube drama wasn't a part of the daily news cycle, and videos in general were less polished.

Case in point: Mr. Chi City. With 194,000 subscribers, he might not seem like a big deal (though that wasn't a small number at the time), but he was an early viral hit on the platform and certainly the first YouTube personality I knew by name. He posted amazing slices of his life like a trip to McDonald's, or a tour of his fridge and how he keeps it stocked with soft drinks so "it will get you many women." In a break with later YouTube stars, his videos were almost always point-of-view shots, not selfies.

It's really inane stuff on the face of it, but like any successful YouTuber, Mr. Chi City was a hit because of his personality: Positive, always laughing, and excited about life.

Sadly, we haven't heard from Mr. Chi City since January 10, 2012, when he departed YouTube with a heartfelt goodbye and thank you to his fans.

Until now.

That's right, as you can see in the video above, Mr. Chi City made a surprise comeback today with a YouTube livestream to his channel that is now archived for your viewing pleasure.

His voice is a little deeper now, but it's a classic Chi City video. He's just chilling, hanging out, shooting the shit about what's been happening on YouTube in the years that he's been away, increasing violence in his hometown of Chicago. As always, it is poorly shot but enthralling all the same because of Mr. Chi City's personality.
