Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Announces He’s Over Facebook

Apple co-founder Steve “Woz” Wozniak told USA Today on Sunday that he’s done with Facebook.

He joins Tim Cook, WhatsApp founder Brian Acton and Elon Musk in collectively shaking their heads at the aftermath of Facebook’s data mining controversy. Facebook exposed more than 87 million users to data analytics company Cambridge Analytica and potentially changed the course of history.

Woz said he'd rather pay for Facebook than have his personal information exploited for advertising, according to USA Today. But Woz said he’s not actually deleting his page. He doesn’t want anyone else grabbing his coveted “stevewoz” username. There are several “Steve Wozniak” pages on Facebook currently, including a verified Public Figure page.

The profile with the screen name “stevewoz” is unavailable, meaning he likely deactivated Facebook, instead of doing a permanent deletion.

"Users provide every detail of their life to Facebook and … Facebook makes a lot of advertising money off this," Woz said. "The profits are all based on the user’s info, but the users get none of the profits back…Apple makes its money off of good products, not off of you. As they say, with Facebook, you are the product.”
