The ‘iTunes of Blowjobs’ Launched Today

BlowCast, which is being billed as the 'iTunes of blowjobs,' allows users to download a simulated blowjob for $1 each.

When it comes to technological innovation, one need only look to the porn industry to see the future. A perennial early adopter of emerging technologies, the adult entertainment industry has pioneered everything from e-commerce to streaming video, so it makes sense that it'd be in the vanguard of the latest tech revolutions: virtual reality and the internet of things.

At this point VR sex and internet connected dildos (aka teledildonics) are old news, but a webcam platform called CamSoda (the same company that offered Ken Bone $100,000 to do a sexy livestream) wants to take both of these technologies to the next level with BlowCast, a virtual on-demand blowjob marketplace.

In essence, BlowCast allows a user to buy a simulated blow job from dozens of amateur and professional cam girls. The way it works is a cam model interested in offering a simulated blowjob is given a Kiiroo Pearl, a vibrating dildo that has been hacked by CamSoda to collect sensory data while the model fellates the device. This data is then uploaded to a repository on BlowCast and a user can select a blowjob based on the model and user reviews.

On the customer-side of things, the user will have an internet connected "sleeve" (essentially a high-tech Fleshlight) which takes the sensory data from the cam girl's dildo and replicates it in the sleeve. When paired with a video feed, it simulates the experience of receiving a blow job from that particular model.

While this might sound great in theory, there are some technical challenges that need to be overcome.

"This does not feel like real sex with someone, but it's the best thing that's out there yet," CamSoda president Daron Lundeen told Motherboard. "It transfers what's occurring, so you feel exactly what the girls are doing on the device."

But what about the security of the devices? Hackers have shown that existing teledildonics are particularly susceptible to third party access, which aside from privacy issues poses a possible health risk if you have a motor capable of applying pressure strapped around your penis.

In the case of BlowCast, its devices are hosted through the Kiiroo network and Lundeen says the two companies have had a lot of discussions about user security.

"On the CamSoda side we do a lot to protect our users, but the device does use Kiiroo's network so we're trusting them to manage their devices," said Lundeen. "But you can't not offer a new technology to people because you're afraid there might be some hacker out there."

Possible security issues aside, Lundeen and his colleagues at CamSoda see BlowCast as the tip of the iceberg when it comes to virtual sex. If the cam girl is in possession of one of CamSoda's hacked dildos and the customer has a sleeve, then the blowjobs can occur in real time rather than downloading a pre-recorded blowjob from the BlowCast library.

Lundeen hopes that as more people begin using the service, non-professionals will also host simulated blowjobs on the site, if for no other reason than an ego stroke.

"There's a lot of people out there curious about how they stack up," Lundeen told Motherboard. "We'll ship the recording device to anybody so anybody can submit a blowjob. This is real people having a real virtual sex experience."

According to Lundeen, there is also the potential for safe sexual exploration using BlowCast in the future. He envisions a sort of virtual glory hole where the source of the simulated blow job is unknown to the user—it might be a man, woman or someone who doesn't identify with either sex.

For now though, BlowCast only hosts simulated blowjobs from 50 different female models who work with CamSoda. If a customer has the $250 dollars to spend on the sleeve, then they can access all of these blowjobs for free for the first 30 days. After that, all blowjobs will be available for a one-time fee of $1 each.
