Inside the Warehouses Where Our Old CRT TVs Go to Die

pluspluspodcast takes you inside America's CRT crisis.

Companies all over the country are struggling to recycle the estimated 705 million cathode ray tube televisions sold in the United states Since 1980. CRTs—the big box TVs you probably grew up with—contain lead, which makes them dangerous to just throw away.

This week's episode of pluspluspodcast goes inside an electronics recycling center in suburban Dallas to meet the people who demanufacture our old TVs by hand. I also explore the mysterious case of Closed Loop, an electronics recycler that was paid to take millions upon millions of TVs but left them abandoned in warehouses in Columbus, Ohio and Phoenix, Arizona.
