'Dead or Alive 5' Warned Players Not to Make Nude Mods, So They Made Nude Mods

It took less than a day for modders to defy the publisher's wishes to not strip characters.

Remember when Koei Tecmo, the developer of Dead or Alive 5: Last Round warned players to be "good and moral" and not modify the fighting game to create nude versions of its characters when it's released on PC?

Here are a bunch of mods for Dead or Alive 5: Last Round which strip the female characters of their clothes, modeling their naked bodies down to the nipple and labia majora.

Judging by the reactions on Game Vixen Zone, a forum where people talk about and share content related to attractive female video game characters, a modder that goes by the name of Vergil had nude mods out as soon as March 30, the same day (!) that Dead or Alive 5: Last Round was released on PC.

You can find the mod on Vergil's website, Lustful Illumination, though it's been a little spotty since it was written about in Kotaku.

Clearly, modders were not dissuaded by Koei Tecmo producer Yosuke Hayashi, who told MCV in an interview: "We would like to ask PC users to play our game in good moral and manner. Otherwise, we won't be able to release a title for PC again."

Are we now to assume that Koei Tecmo will not release another game on PC ever again? I doubt it, or at least it won't be because of the nude mods.

Seeing as the game was released on PC only a week ago, it's too soon to say if it was worth Koei Tecmo's time and effort, and I imagine that ultimately that's what's going to make the difference. If the game goes on to sell millions of copies, Koei Tecmo will deny itself revenue just because someone painted areolas on their intellectual property.

Also, let this GIF serve as a reminder that the difference between nudity and no nudity seems like splitting hairs considering the fact that what you see here is Koei Tecmo-approved content that is already in the game:
