A concerned redditor warns people to expect delays.
As the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic hunker down for what might be a "crippling" snow storm this weekend, dark web customers are worried that the heavy weather will disrupt their scheduled shipments of illegal goods.
"Expect slow/stuck mail through that area!" one user of the "darknetmarkets" subreddit wrote on Thursday. The subreddit is a space where customers regularly trade reviews of vendors, post media reports about local law enforcement busts, and discuss the latest marketplace gossip.
The storm "is obviously going to slow down parcels through that area and [I'm] sure things will even get stuck for days as cities like D.C and Baltimore will be brought to a complete standstill," the post continues.
On Friday and Saturday, a severe snow storm is expected to stretch from the Appalachians toward New York, and USA Today reports that a blizzard watch has been put into effect in the Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas.
Physical products bought on dark web marketplaces are typically posted through the regular mail to customers. Naturally, any event which affects that infrastructure is going to knock the delivery of dark web products.
"Just wanted to make sure you guys knew!!" the Reddit post concludes.
