This Guy Lit 10 Generations of iPhones on Fire

Don't try this at home.

Sure, we all know what happens when your iPhone gets wet, but ever wonder what would happen if your iPhone caught on fire? In this video by YouTuber Zach Straley, who experiments with iPhone destruction, 10 different iPhones ranging from the 2G to the 6S are set ablaze.

I was surprised at how satisfying it was to watch all those iPhones smolder after Straley douses them with gasoline and lights them on fire. The video is like watching a showdown between nature and technology. The iPhones valiantly stayed true to their form, as the fire blazed around them. The fire failed to totally incinerate them, however. By the time the flames subsided, the blackout iPhones were beyond what any Apple store Genius would likely be able to tackle. Still, once they cooled down, the earlier generation of iPhones surprisingly were still semi-functional.

Despite how mesmerizing I found Straley's experiment, I'd never want to actually have to wonder in real life if my phone would work after catching fire. But unfortunately, it does happen occasionally. In March, high school sophomore Anna Crail's iPhone spontaneously burst into flames before her eyes while on a flight to Hawaii. The same happened in May 2015 when a 12-year-old's iPhone caught fire while in her pocket.

While the victims of these incidents survived, spontaneous iPhone fire sounds much more terrifying than mesmerizing than Straley's video otherwise makes it seem. If your iPhone seems dangerously hot, probably best to turn it off and keep it in a nonflammable place, rather than wonder what would happen if it actually caught fire.
