Click Here to Find Out If a Robot Will Take Your Job

The robots have their eyes on a lot of jobs. Is yours one?

If you're looking for something else to worry about today, try searching for your own job title on this new web tool. It's nice to look at, easy to use, and kind of a bummer for most of us.

Designed and developed by Dimitar Raykov and Mubashar Iqbal, it uses data from the 2013 report, "The Future of Employment: How susceptible are jobs to computerisation?" as well as data from the Bureau of Labor. The researchers for that study estimated 47 percent of total US employment is at risk of automation.

You can search for your own gig (reporters and correspondents are at an 11 percent risk of automation, a level they call "No Worries") or hit the randomized button to see an example from their database (metal and plastic patternmakers are "doomed," at 90 percent risk). Alongside the risk percentage are projected growth rates in the next seven years, the amount of people sharing that job title as of 2016, and median annual wage.

Most Americans think robots will dominate the workforce in the near future. Not their own jobs, of course, because their skills are special and could never be replicated, no way. Transhumanists believe automation could make us happier and healthier than ever, if we can just loosen up about this collective identity crisis.

Whether it's signaling the end of times or a new dawn is still TBD, but automation is happening—and it's hard to say exactly where one might stand once the robots take over, even with the help of a snazzy web interactive.
