“Rocketing a Pabst into space” sounds like one of those terrible euphemisms you tend to use when you want to only half-admit that you’re binge-drinking aggressively, and it is. But keep this in mind the next time you’re getting thunderpermed at a family reunion and can’t stop blathering about sucking back some rocket fuel: While Pabst might not be able to literally send you into orbit, the company was, at one point in the 70s, involved with jetpacks.According to the unrivaled Paleofuture, the ad comes from 1976 and features hairy-chested manly-man William P. Suitor flying his signature jetpack about. For an enthusiast like myself, I have to say that the 70s mustache styles on display are stunning. But the true brilliance of the bit are the absurd cuts and panning shots of Suitor flying; I suppose it’s partially due to the stiff upright flying position that the jetpack requires, but seeing some dude zip through the mountains like he’s barely in control of the fucking thing is brilliant.
