Watch GTA 5's Wildlife Documentary 'Onto the Land'

Learn all about the mammals of "Grand Theft Auto V."

Grand Theft Auto V's Los Angeles-inspired Los Santos and surrounding areas are so large and detailed, this 15-minute documentary about its wildlife, Onto the Land, looks like something that wouldn't feel out of place on the National Geographic Channel.

This fairly convincing imitation of the real nature documentaries like Planet Earth or your David Attenborough movie of your choice would have been impossible without the work developer Rockstar Games put into Grand Theft Auto V's world, but it's also expertly shot and edited by 8-Bit Bastard, a group famous for its elaborate Grand Theft Auto movies.

"This GTA 5 nature documentary will demonstrate the behaviors of some of the most remarkable mammals in and around Los Santos and Blaine County and some of the deepest mysteries will also be revealed," 8-Bit Bastard said.

The group created the video that announced Grand Theft Auto V's built-in editing tool, and Onto the Land itself is a companion piece to Into the Deep, a documentary about the game's ocean wildlife.

Remarkably, 8-Bit Bastard created Onto the Land without modifying the game in any way. If you want to see how the filmmakers managed this, you can also watch this two hour video in which 8-Bit Bastard's Alec Chaney explains and shows how they were able to get some of those amazing shots.
