Here’s How Apple Plans to Prevent Another App Store Malware Invasion

Pay attention, developers.

Apple is already taking steps to prevent the App Store from becoming infected with malware again.

The company has posted a note to developers on its website pleading with them to ensure that they download Xcode, the piece of software that's used to develop iOS apps, only from Apple itself. This follows the recent discovery that several consumer-facing apps in China, including popular messaging app WeChat and Didi Kuaidi (which is Uber's main competitor in China), were infected with malware. It subsequently emerged that these apps were infected with malware because their developers used an unofficial version of Xcode that had malware hidden inside of it.

Phil Schiller, Apple's marketing chief, said in an interview that the company does not currently have any evidence suggesting that any users' sensitive data was obtained in the breach.
