Werner Herzog Made a Weird Documentary About The Killers

Why did Werner Herzog decide to film a documentary and an "online concert event" featuring The Killers? Probably because American Express and VEVO paid him a lot of money. Also: why not?

The Killers, a famous pop rock unit that has composed precisely one excellent song,

does not seem to interest Mr. Herzog all that much. He’s more interested in learning whether or not bighorn sheep ever wander onto the Las Vegas strip.

So be gladdened. This cross-promotional multiple-demographic-calibrated product is actually interesting, mostly because Herzog decides not to include a single note of rock music and instead allow the camera to linger uncomfortably on the star men’s faces while they stammer out answers to routine band interview questions. These are not rock stars here, this is not Brandon Flowers, these are slightly awkward human beings in the desert, wondering what their veneer of cool does for them out there anyways when they’re talking to some esteemed German documentarian.

The aforementioned online concert eventapalooza, also helmed by Herzog, airs at 4 pm today on YouTube.
