Now Watch This: Win Win's "Interleave" (A Music Video)

Not to be confused with the new Paul Giamatti wrestling comedy, Win Win is the answer to the question of what you get when you combine DJ/producer XXXchange, his friend Chris Devlin and video-collage artist/producer Ghostdad.

This impressive video is what you get when you throw Hot Chip’s effervescent Alexis Taylor into the mix, along with lasers, the Apple flashing question mark disk, and an entire night’s dream’s worth of motion graphics. If a sequel to the Tron remake is in the cards, I hope the producers have director Colin Devin Moore’s contact information.

(Speaking of cards, also see Aaron Koblin’s camera-less video for Radiohead’s “House of Cards,” with which this video has a nice resonance.)

I contacted Colin to find out a bit more about the making-of. He said it was shot it in a janitors closet backstage before a concert in New York and edited on his laptop. He writes:

XXXChange sent me the song and pretty immediately I noticed, it had something to it. I couldn’t quite define what the song was about, but it certainly had a mood. It was kind of sad sounding, kind of outer-spacey. Alexis (from Hot Chip) let me steal him and shoot him, in between songs, during soundcheck, before a show. My friend, Gil Amorin, and I took that footage and distorted the shit out of it. Some we FUBAR’ed, some of it we altered more subtly, and eventually I edited it into a balance of the two. There were quite a few late nights, and that might have come across in the video. Things get weird when you don’t sleep. Coincidently, that semi-conscious, 5 A.M., video synth nightmare/dream world translated pretty nicely into a visual counterpart to the song.

See Electric Independence’s home studio visit with XXXChange, but don’t see Colin’s website if you are at all epileptic.
