Premiere: Das Rad Rock Out Hard For "Radiator"

The Toronto group are the newest old thing in metal and we're premiering the video from their EP.

Toronto's Das Rad are the newest old thing in metal. They sound like a timetranscending combination of hyper experimental shoegaze and classic, protometal acts like Can, Iron Butterfly, and Black Sabbath. It comes together to make a loud, droning, dark sound that gives no fucks about anything, but extends a hand to invite you along for the ride.

The band's forthcoming LP, Radiation, is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated releases of the year within the experimental metal community after the premiere of its [first single of the same name](http://www.stereogum.com/1702840/dasradradiator- stereogumpremiere/mp3s/). "Radiator" rolls forward like a sixteen wheeler truck on a dark highway, slowly building into an explosive, jagged-edged jam, as haunting, washed-out vocals howl in the distance. It's big and menacing, and we can't wait to hear more.

In the meantime, take an exclusive first look at the music video for "Radiator." Subversively low fi, it was filmed in grainy digital with cheeky photo effects throughout. It evokes the early days of consumer grade digital cameras, before YouTube videos demanded the same production quality as HBO, when it was possible to mess around with your friends for a day and make a movie for fun. You'd never think that would create a punk back-to-basics vibe, but it does here, and Das Rad's music feels all the more sincere for it.
