Man Arrested for Trying to Punch Crystal Palace's Real Live Bald Eagle Mascot

Who punches a bird?

Kayla the real live bald eagle—adopted as Crystal Palace's mascot in 2010 and flown around Selhurst Park before games—was allegedly almost punched during the London side's Capitol One Cup matchup against Charlton Athletic. In connection with the incident, a 34-year-old Welling man was arrested earlier this morning under suspicion of violent disorder and attempted criminal damage, the Croydon Advertiser reported.

Earlier this week, a police investigation ended in multiple raids that saw six men arrested for violent disorder during the match. While the extent of the violent disorder is unknown, I'd like to imagine that police conducted six individual house raids, complete with battering rams, just to find the man that almost punched a bird. Because, well, punching a bird is pretty messed up. They're fragile.

But, alas, it seems that there were also some humans actually being punched. While five of the six men were bailed out, Zach Ellis, 20, was charged with assault for beating a fellow human being. I wonder if there's some kind of harsher punishment for bird punching in England. Because there certainly should be.
