Today, I’m sitting where I sat last year for the duration of Hurricane Irene, at my friend’s highrise on the East River. It’s a great place to watch people go out to walk the dog, or head to the riverfront as they test winds with loved ones, tempting water levels to rise and amaze them. “I’m going into the hurricane,” I say, retreating to the TV room to watch Jim Cantore and a gaggle of other meteorologists and weather commentators explain surge levels, damage potential, the West Virginia blizzard and a partially downed crane on West 57th street. Needless to say, I eventually had to go up to the roof to capture some GIFable images.
