Images via Libs ElliottLibs Elliott calls her creations “modern heirlooms.” The Toronto-based designer combines the ancient craft of quilting with Processing code, resulting in unexpected displays of wild geometry, not dissimilar to glitch-knitting, and other tech-meets-textile processes.Processing allows her to generate random, non-traditional designs in an efficient, affordable way. When a pattern strikes Elliott’s fancy, she sketches it onto fabric and then sews it by hand. She appreciates the transition from digital to analogue, the difference between the instant gratification of generative art and the tedious task of turning that pattern into a beautiful blanket. If she collaborates with Nukeme for some glitch quilting, we hope we’ll get a few shattered squares and exploding triangles squares. Ask for it when you commission your own piece of cuddly code; get in touch with Elliott here.
