Here's, Uh, Ryan Phillippe Rapping on 'Sway in the Morning'

"I'm a father and a daddy, if you know what I mean."

I wasn't aware that he was in the market for a career change, but apparently 90s heartthrob and actor Ryan Phillippe (he's the guy from Cruel Intentions and I Know What You Did Last Summer who your girlfriend thinks is hot) fancies himself as a rapper.

Or at least, that's the impression I get from his recent appearance on Sway in the Morning. Phillippe agreed to freestyle some bars on the show, but actually lowkey seemed to take the whole thing kind of seriously, somehow managing to simultaneously like a younger kid trying to impress someone older at school (though he does, inexplicably, namecheck Kevin Abstract?), and the walking embodiment of steve_buscemi_hey_fellow_kids.jpg ("My playlists are like a 19-year-old's. I listen to all the new young stuff"). #Realheads will know that Phillippe has been a self-professed rap nerd for a while, and has already been interviewed by Sway.

Anyway, when it was his time to step up to the mic, Phillippe flexed his "freestyle" muscles, throwing in an "R.I.P. Nate Dogg" (???) alongside various shoutouts to his own movies. It is clear that this isn't technically an off-the-cuff freestyle, because he's reading the lyrics off his phone, which Sway holds up to show that Phillippe "takes it seriously" and has the talent to write. Once he'd finished, Phillippe insisted it was "garbage," before almost wistfully adding "one day I'll do better," which has actually made me feel real weird and sad. You follow your dreams Ryan, you hear me?

Watch above and try not to scream when he calls himself "a father and a daddy."
