Would You Join a PC Games of the Month Club for $12?

Humble Bundle introduces a subscription service to PC games.

My Steam library already has a long and ever-growing list of games I'll never have time to play, so I'm not really hurting for more PC games, but digital game store Humble Bundle just announced a new deal that threatens to make it even longer.

Starting November, Humble Bundle will offer Humble Monthly, that for $12 per month, will digitally deliver to subscribers a new batch of mystery games every month. If you sign up right now, you'll instantly get the throwback dungeon crawler Legend of Grimrock 2, then an undetermined number of more games once the program starts on November 6. Every month will work similarly: one game will unlock instantly, then more will trickle in.

Is it worth it? That all depends on the games you're getting, and Humble Bundle promises it'll be "on par with the type of premium content that Humble Bundle is known for, but with even more added value."

That sounds pretty good with the following caveat: Humble Bundle offers very cheap bundles of great games every month, but they're rarely the latest, big budget game releases. For example, you can currently spend $10 on a bundle that will get you the excellent strategy games Planetary Annihilation and Xenonauts; Double Fine's hilarious wrestling game Gang Beasts, and many more. It's a steal if you don't already have them, but they're all fairly old, smaller games, and that's what you can expect from Humble Monthly.

Sony's PlayStation Plus and Microsoft's Games with Gold Subscriptions already offer similar deals on consoles, so it's nice to see something like this on PC. You're not going to get the new Call of Duty in one of these packages, but $12 for a monthly supply of lesser known games you might not go out of your way to find otherwise doesn't sound bad at all.
