Waterspouts Are Surprisingly Terrifying

We’re officially scared to go outside.

It's just not a good week to go to the beach.

After a hailstorm pounded beaches in Southern California, another freak weather system is ruining the nice afternoon these beachgoers in Brazil were having.

Swimmers ran for cover Sunday when a quick-moving waterspout—a fast-moving, tornado-like funnel of water—whipped up sand, palm trees and beach chairs. This scary video below shows the waterspout tearing across the Candeias Beach in northern Brazil as screaming people bolted to safety.

The Weather Channel explains the waterspout was spawned from a severe thunderstorm that was brewing over the water. As a result, a funnel between the water and the base of the thunderstorm cloud caused the waterspout.

Luckily, no injuries were reported.
