Watch Ben Carson Unleash His Canned Speech About How the Brain Works

"See if you can get one of those rap singers to do that."

Real-life presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson knows some stuff. That's part (part) of his whole role in the monster truck rally that is the Republican primary race—to be the genius that makes the unceasing waves of Dark Ages anti-intellectualism pouring from the mouths of Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, and, of course, Ben Carson himself seem like it's coming from the brains of actual adults who are capable of, you know, thinking and reasoning about the world.

Liberal critics like to insist that Ben Carson is really just a big dumb-dumb with maybe some book smarts and a good memory (which are sort of the same thing). But even when he's using the complexities of the brain to illustrate a tired, invalid point about evolution being incapable of creating that complexity, as he is in the video below (via Business Insider), we mock his intelligence at our own peril.

Not because he's really, covertly the material of a cunning world leader, but because he can do stuff like this and the sort of people that vote far-right in primaries will eat it up. A genius!

The spiel in the video isn't really evidence for smarts—he's been repeating it for years—but many will take it as such and Carson will have fulfilled his role (one of them). At this stage of the race, all we can really do is watch in wonderment and wait for reality to catch up with this mess.
