This Clever Flying Robot Will Follow You Around

Don't call it a drone.

Drones currently on the marketplace are complicated. Just figuring out how to operate their remote controls is an all day affair, but that soon could change with the Lily Camera.

The sleekly designed flying robot is taking selfies to new heights. All you have to do is toss it up in the sky and it will follow you around using a watch-sized GPS tracker latched to your wrist. It packs a 12-megapixel camera to record video and pictures. And, unlike its competitors, it's waterproof so dicey situations like this can be avoided.

With 20 minutes of flight time per charge, it's enough for entry level drone owners looking to capture unique vacation pictures (as its promotional video clearly implies). Notably, the Lily Camera doesn't include the word drone in it, likely because it doesn't want to be off putting to the casual consumer.

It goes on presale today for the hefty price of $499 and won't start shipping until next February. Then the price will increase to $999, a far steeper price point than the DJI Phantom with a GoPro, which costs $400.

Still, convenience over cost might truly set it apart.
