The Red Hot Nickel Ball Takes On Some Floral Foam

You can trace its path of destruction.

The internet will seemingly never tire of seeing YouTube user Carsandwater destroy stuff with a red-hot nickel ball.

In this go-round, Carsandwater (real name Matthew Neuland) takes on some floral foam sent to him by a fan. For those who don't know, floral foam is used in fancier flower arrangements to hold heavy stems in place. The dense foam also holds water, keeping blooms hydrated and healthy.

When dropped on the foam, the nickel ball starts to slowly turn the block into a standing hunk of glowing charcoal from the top down. Afterward, Neuland gleefully smashes it to dust.

When I interviewed Neuland about his YouTube channel back in May, he couldn't really account for his success, aside from the factor of human curiosity. "That's where you get your satisfaction from, actually seeing it done. And if it does something you weren't expecting, that's pretty cool."
