The Projector Drone Would Probably Be on Batman's Utility Belt

Its uses are pretty limited, but if you're a superhero, this thing might be just what you're looking for.

Ever find yourself wanting to project Bat Signals against the walls of your city's skyscrapers but frequently left without a means to do so? Time to call in the Drone Projector.

A team in Australia called I-Drone has strapped a projector to a drone and has rigged it to do exactly what it sounds like—shoot images onto walls. The practical uses of such a device seem few and far between, but if you're a burgeoning superhero, it could be perfect for you.

In a proof of concept video, the Projector Drone is shown broadcasting Looney Tunes, a game of Pong, and, yes, logos against a wall.

"Our Projector Drone does not record the world around it," Ryan Hamlet, the project manager behind the drone, said in a statement. "It broadcasts onto it."

The drone features a memory card to store whatever it's projecting, and the team is working on live streaming video to the drone. The drawback, like with most drones at this stage, is battery life—it can only fly for 12 minutes at a time.

It wouldn't be the first time drones have been used to broadcast something. Last year, over London, a swarm of drones made the Star Trek logo to promote the new movie.

The Projector Drone was created with the help of the Australian company Mini Projector—so when it's viewed through that lens, this whole project makes a lot more sense. It's good publicity for the company, and, hey, maybe there really is a superhero out there who needs this.
