The iPhone 6s Was Apple’s Biggest iPhone Launch Ever

Another year, another record weekend for iPhone sales.

Apple sold more than 13 million iPhone 6s and 6s Plus units over the weekend, breaking the previous record of 10 million units set last year with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Apple sold 9 million iPhone 5s and 5c units in the opening weekend of sales in 2013.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, who appeared at a Washington, D.C.-area Apple retail store during the launch, described the sales as "phenomenal," saying they had "blown away" all other iPhone launches in history.

At the high end, analysts had only expected sales of 12 million units.

So, what goosed the numbers this time around? As you may already know, wireless carriers in the US are practically fighting over themselves to lease you an iPhone 6s for just a few dollars per month. The smartphone was also available at launch in China, which just so happens to be Apple's largest market for iPhones. We likely won't have any sense of the sales breakdown between regions until Apple's next earnings call next month.

Or maybe people just really love rose gold?
