Tesla Motors Previews Its Fully Robotic Charging System

Meet the Solid Metal Snake.

Tesla's new robotic charger looks like a disembodied human spine and is straight out of my worst H.R. Giger nightmares.

Called the Solid Metal Snake, the creeptastic jointed charger finds the car's port on its own, with no human intervention. It's pretty cool, but it's not like charging a Tesla was a difficult process to begin with.

Tesla Motors has had some bad news today, with reports that it is scaling back sales targets and that its Model S is vulnerable to hacking. This sneak peek at its charging-station prototype is probably designed to distract us from the 6 percent stock drop.
