Powerful Telescope Captures Stunning Footage of the Moon in 4K

Up close and personal.

It's easy to forget that the moon is out there orbiting and minding its own business.

Luckily, researchers at the Mount John University Observatory in New Zealand are keeping an eye on it. Using a 24 foot (61cm) reflector lens, the stunning video gives us a close examination of the moon's crater-filled surface and eerie atmosphere.

The five minute clip, shot in 4K, is probably best experienced on a towering IMAX theater screen. Since not everyone has access to that, the least you can do is watch it on YouTube in cinema mode.
