Pitch Us On Your Most Luxurious Story Ideas for Luxury Week

Motherboard is taking a week to examine the luxurious side of life, and we want you to be a part of it.

You're up at the crack of dawn.

Like every other day, you brush your teeth and hop into the shower, running through your to-do list while you wash the suds from your hair. A few minutes later you're throwing on a pair of pants and heading out the door to face the world yet again.

This is fine, but where's the stardust? Where's the poetry? It's easy to get lost in the rhythm of everyday life, but surely there's room for fun every now and then. Surely there's room for something a bit more luxurious?

The great promise of technology is to make life easier and more equitable, and in many cases it has. But the booming ranks of the superwealthy, luxury isn't just a gold watch—it's time. This is why the tech elite are so obsessed with ending death: The most precious commodity for the truly rich and powerful is their time on this Earth.

We want to explore what it means to live like the technoelite, outsourcing every timesuck we can. As such, Motherboard is pleased to announce Luxury Week, a weeklong look at the rarified world of high-end living that many of us aspire to but so few of us will ever actually experience—and ultimately, the inequality of time.

Along the way, this will give us all some insight into the mindset of wealth. Some things are simple: What if all you really wanted to do was commute to work with a ludicrously fast bicycle, setting Strava records for all the world to see? Others are more existential: Terrified of a populist uprising? What if you had a team of ex-Navy SEALs just a phone call away who'd be able to instruct you and your loved ones how to escape your city in case society falls apart at the seams? Let's see the Joneses keep up with that!

And what if your ultimate idea of luxury is merely to come home after a long day at the office, relax in front of Netflix, and enjoy a meticulously crafted meal prepared for you in your very own kitchen by a classically trained chef? Sometimes you wonder whether you're really even living at all.

This is where you come in. While Motherboard's staff is already hard at work on several rather premium stories for the week, we're also looking to feature a number of stories from outside contributors as well. Do you know what it's like to live like the rich? Have you spent way too much time reading about seasteading? We want to hear!

Motherboard is, of course, a science and technology publication that's focused on the future, so priority will be given to pitches that are centered on similar themes, especially stories about how the rich use tech to stop wasting time like the rest of us plebes.

Luxury Week will run the week of September 26, while all pitches from outside contributors are due by next Friday, September 2. Pitches can be sent to nicholas.deleon@motherboard.tv or editor@motherboard.tv.
