It's no secret that Spotify's new privacy policy is a nightmare for the Do Not Track crowd in the sense that it basically wants permission to track everything, from your location data to your phone contacts. But Markus "Notch" Persson, the beloved creator of Minecraft is the one of the first high profile tech icons to call out the company, asking them to "Please consider not being evil."The comment resulted in a back-and-forth between Notch and Daniel Ek of Spotify, who defended his company by saying that users can opt out of the privacy changes, which also give access to photos on mobile devices. Spotify maintains, "The data accessed simply helps us to tailor improved experiences to our users, and build new and personalised products for the future." However, it also cautioned, "If you don't agree with the terms of this privacy policy, then please don't use the service," a sort of our-way-or-the-highway attitude.It's always possible that Spotify will roll back the rather … extreme privacy policy, as other companies like Instagram have done. But in the meantime, Notch may be the beginning of a flood of high profile user revolts that could lead many to leave the service.
