Magic Leap’s New Augmented Reality Demo Looks Like Google Glass on Steroids

We're finally starting to see behind the curtain at one of the world's most-hyped startups.

Magic Leap, one of the most secretive and most-hyped startups out there has a new demo out of its long-awaited augmented reality platform.

I've never had a desire for phantom jellyfish to float around my desk, but I must admit the demo looks pretty cool. Stick on some sort of glasses—we still haven't seen what they will look like yet—and you'll be able to send emails and texts through heads up displays, check out 3D infographics and diagrams, and watch VR-style video come to life all around you.

Magic Leap still has no product out, and with Microsoft's Hololens, it's not the only company vying for the still nascent augmented, or "mixed" reality market. But the company's demos so far have been awesome, and investors are buying what the future Magic Leap is selling—in February, the company raised $793.5 million.

I met with Magic Leap reps last year, and the Florida startup is adamant that the real game-changing technology is mixed reality, not VR. Why? Well, they think that people really want to interact with the world that's already out there.

Though there's been no public demo of the product, Wired just published a look behind the curtain at Magic Leap, meaning we'll probably be hearing much more from the company soon.
