Kojima’s New Game Studio Wants To Make Movies, Too

The newly announced Kojima Productions is working with Sony for its first project.

We now know a little bit more about Hideo Kojima's post-Konami plans.

The video game director, best known for his work on the Metal Gear series, told IGN that his new studio, Kojima Productions, will initially focus on creating games, but that he has not ruled out "movies, animations, anything."

"Once we have an established IP in games, something solid that satisfies people, then we can consider movies and videos," he said.

Kojima confirmed on Wednesday that he would be starting a new production studio. Sony has already partnered with the studio, whose first console game will be console-exclusive to the PS4. This game is also set to come out for the PC, despite Sony deleting a Q&A on Medium where it first discussed the game coming out for the PC.

Besides his work on the Metal Gear series, Kojima had also begun work on a reboot of the Silent Hill franchise alongside film director Guillermo Del Toro. A short preview of the planned game, called Silent Hills, was released on the PS4's digital download store in August 2014 under the name P.T. The game was subsequently canceled amid, well, pure chaos at Konami, and the game was removed for download earlier this year. Konami didn't merely pull the game for new customers, either: The game was entirely removed from the store, meaning anyone who had previously downloaded it could not re-download it. This past summer I had to send in my PS4 to Sony to be repaired, and I lost my copy of P.T. in the process. Not fun!
