Kim Dotcom: Your Data Isn’t Safe on Mega

Dotcom dishes dirt in wide-ranging interview.

Over at Slashdot, the larger-than-life Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom answered user questions about Mega and his obsession with the Call of Duty series. He also took plenty of potshots at the US government for its role in taking down Megaupload, saying, "The US government would not have taken such overreaching and drastic action if 220 Americans would have lost their jobs… The US Justice system in a tool of a US empire that wants to control the world."

Dotcom also warned users about Mega, the encrypted cloud storage provider he launched in early 2013. Dotcom, who is no longer involved with the company, said its assets are now under the control of the New Zealand government and therefore no longer believes "your data is safe [there] anymore." He noted that he's planning to start a new company in a few months that will feature end-to-end encrypted file-sharing and that will be "completely open source and non-profit, similar to the Wikipedia model."

Dotcom, a well-known Call of Duty fanatic, then called Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare a disappointment, but said he "can't wait" for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to come out later this year. Good to know, Kim!
