Here's 93 Minutes of Open Sea

Probably the internet's greatest single-shot slab of visual ambience.

Everything was blue. Blue water, blue horizon, blue sky. No breaks. Just endless shades of blue.

I was aboard the good ship Gunhilder Maersk as it traversed the South China Sea en route from Vietnam to China, when, after only seven minutes at sea, I fell in. I'd become unmoored. As it happened, I was sitting at my desk on dry land, answering email and hoping to get through precisely 93 minutes of unbroken footage of said voyage from Vietnam to China.

Shot in crispy 4K, it's a stunning entry in the single-shot world of visual ambience videos on YouTube. It's quite Zen. On a Friday, after the mental crunch of the work week, it's bliss. It almost calls to mind those hypnosis videos that promise sweet dreams and hands-free orgasms; quietly disorienting, and that's OK. But will you eventually get lulled to barf?

At any rate, here's to *staring off toward the horizon*.
