iPhone Resale Values Peak in Week Before Apple Event

Who wants to be seen using a crusty old iPhone 6 after next week?

Apple is supposedly (maybe?) announcing its next generation iPhone at its upcoming press event on September 9. That means, if you want to get the most cash possible for your old phone, you should sell it this week, according to figures from several e-commerce sites.

Gazelle released a chart Wednesday showing trade in values for iPhone 4s and iPhone 5s, its most popular models, in the 20 days leading up to new iPhone announcements. The chart showed this year iPhone 5s models are going for about 130 percent of its value on Gazelle as of 13 days ago. If you want to sell your device, its best offers on 16GB iPhones are $171 for 5s, $345 for iPhone 6 and $370 for iPhone 6 Plus.

A similar program from NextWorth allows customers to trade in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus for up to $480. Amazon will also take used iPhones for the average price of $360 for iPhone 6, $389 for iPhone 6 Plus, and $175 for iPhone 5s. Best Buy also offers a trade in program. No matter which service you use, if you are selling your phone you should probably do it before the September 9 event when the prices are likely to drop.
