Motherboard is looking for an internet editor in Brooklyn.

VICE started in 1994 as a newsprint monthly in Montreal and is now a global youth media company that includes print, events, music, online, television, and feature film divisions that operates in over 30 countries. Motherboard is VICE's science and technology site.

Launched in 2009, Motherboard finds the people and things that are making our weird and wonderful present and future, with news, commentary, in-depth reporting, photos, and original video documentaries.

Whether it's politics, art, sex, drugs, war, design, nature, space, history and sci-fi, Motherboard's award-winning journalism skips the useless tech hype to make room for the things that are actually reshaping our world.

OVERVIEW

MOTHERBOARD is looking for an internet editor to help us develop coverage that is unique, skeptical, global, human, and a little subversive. The internet is a regular part of most of our lives now. How do we cover that space the way we cover other traditional beats? The position is based in VICE Media's Brooklyn headquarters.

This is most definitely not a position for aggregating tweets about memes. We're looking for someone who can help us develop our digital field reporting: The ideal candidate fundamentally understands how online spaces live and thrive, and is comfortable and skilled at embedding within them to report out human-driven stories just like any other on-the-ground report.

Good examples from Motherboard's archives include a tour of Hell, a journey through the worst place in Minecraft, and embedding with Arma 3 snipers. It's not limited to games, either; we'd expect you'd be able to report on trollish makeup subreddits too. The main thing is we want someone who understand how digital spaces mimic physical ones, and who can report on them without resorting to drive-by coverage. We want you inside the machine.

You should be excited about recruiting great writers; assigning topical, smart stories; and giving constructive feedback on pitches. You should have an understanding of what makes a Motherboard story, and bring a fresh, diverse perspective to help us in our mission of explaining the futures around us.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of four years of reporting and editing experience at an online journalism outlet. Video experience is a plus.

A general knowledge of the wide range of topics Motherboard covers is a must, as is an allergy to rehashing stories that have already been told elsewhere. Most importantly, we're looking for an energetic, motivated editor/journalist who is committed to doing the forward-thinking reporting Motherboard is known for while still having fun and being weird.
