Earlier reports crying possible censorship were the result of a glitch.

One early report of the alleged emoji blocking.

Last night, the Times of Israel reported that Instagram was blocking the use of the Israeli flag emoji for some users. The story was picked up by several other outlets and Reddit. But according to a rep for Instagram, this was merely the result of an unfortunate glitch that also affected the Finnish flag emoji.

The Motherboard team tested it earlier today with mixed results—it seemed some people could post the flag, while others got an error message stating "Comment Blocked: Sorry, these types of comments aren't allowed. We restrict certain content and actions to protect our community." Understandably, this caused many Instagram users to send in complaints.

Instagram responded to our request for comment by stating, "We discovered an unintentional technical bug affecting emoji including the Israeli and Finnish flags. We have identified and fixed the issue. People should be able to post the affected emoji immediately."

As of this afternoon, it seems the glitch has been fixed. Unfortunately, Instagram users are still prevented from posting pictures showing female nipples. Free the Nipple.
