Hong Kong Celebrates Valentine’s Day with 25,000 LED Light Roses

Move over, Paris, because it looks like Hong Kong is angling to snatch away the title of "City of Love."

On Saturday night, the Chinese city welcomed a radiant installation called the Light Rose Garden at Tamar Park, a 180,000 square foot green space in the business district. Comprised of 25,000 LED-illuminated roses, the art piece debuted just in time for Valentine's Day, much to the delight of spectators.

The Light Rose Garden is the brainchild of organizer Jung Yong Jin, who first debuted the installation in Seoul, South Korea, in 2014. It took six months for Jung's team to individually install each seven-petalled, waterproof rose, but in the end, the sparkling sea of flowers was worth it.

"I created this LED rose garden because I wanted families, friends and lovers to come out to parks at night," Jung said, according to the South China Morning Post. Sure enough, crowds flocked to Tamar Park to enjoy the installation on the evening of February 14.

In addition to providing Hongkongers with a romantic night out, the Light Rose Garden coincides with China's New Year Lantern Festival, which runs until February 22. After that date, the installation will move on to Singapore.
