Here's SpaceX's Rocket Exploding Into a Million Pieces

Boom.

SpaceX came thisclose to landing its rocket on a drone boat Tuesday, in a move that would have ushered in the era of reusable rockets. Instead, the choppy waters and some "excess lateral velocity" caused the rocket to tip over and blow up into a million little pieces.

It makes for great video, but hopefully it's the last time we'll have to see it. SpaceX plans to attempt to land its rocket on land next time, maybe as early as later this month. It's tried to land on a drone boat three times now, a tough task considering you have a rocket that weighs several thousand pounds and is returning from space attempting to land on something that bounces up and down on waves.
