Fallout 4 is out, and it's doing extremely well. The game hit a peak of 445,546 concurrent players just on Steam, Valve's digital PC games store that serves over 125 million active accounts. That's more than Grand Theft Auto V, which in April hit a peak of 360,000 concurrent players, according to Steam Charts.One reason Fallout 4 has a big audience on PC is the modding scene. Developer Bethesda's role-playing games are always huge, but because the company has a tradition of supporting modders—people who modify or add stuff to the game—its games keep growing and changing, even years after launch. Just watch this video of Bethesda's last game, Skyrim, to see how crazy it can get when you use a variety of mods at once.

Judging by the mods that are already out there, Fallout 4 is likely to get the same kind of support from the modding community. It's only been out for a day, and modders are making little tweaks to the wasteland.Cruising through the modding website and community NexusMods, these are the Fallout 4 mods that caught our eye so far:
Immersive Attire Fix by CeoYep, that's a butt with a "Rad Sox" logo on it, a radiated play the baseball team in Boston, where Fallout 4 is set.The mod "fixes a huge oversight bug that Bethesda made in proper attire for Boston and surrounding area region," modder Ceo explains, adding that it "greatly enhances the New England immersion."I've played about 10 hours of Fallout 4. I haven't ran into any mention of Rad Sox yet, and neither did Motherboarders Nicholas Deleon and Clinton Nguyen. I also haven't seen them mentioned online, so as far as I can tell the clever pun came from Ceo.He explains that the mod simply replaces the nude body texture in the game with this one, meaning it's not an item you can find in the world, equip, and wear. Creating new items entirely will probably take modders a little more time.Still, if you want to wear Rad Sox undies, this is not a bad solution.
The Eyes Of Beauty Fallout Edition by LogRaam aka Gabriel MailhotThe eyes are the window to the soul, which is why video game characters often seem so soulless. Eyes in video games have a hard time recreating that human spark, and this mod aims to fix that, or at least make the eyes for characters in the game a little prettier.

For now, the mod replaces some of the games default eyes with new textures make them seem brighter, and create greater variety. Modder Gabriel Mailhot says that they plans to add more eye textures in the future.
Enhanced Wasteland Preset by RazedFallout 4 is a good-looking game already, but the Enhanced Wasteland Preset mod aims to make it look a little better.It adds and tweaks a bunch of graphical settings (SMAA, FXAA, Dither, and so on), to make the game look a little less washed out. As you can see in the video above, colors just pop more with this mod installed.I think that the washed out color palette is probably intentional—it is a post-apocalyptic wasteland after all, but if that look's bringing you down, there's a mod for that.
Fallout 3 Esque by SolidSageAnd while we're on the subject of colors, this mod brings back the green hue from Fallout 3, in case you missed it.
Unlimited Settlement Objects by Spyder638One of the biggest addition to Fallout 4 over previous Fallout games is the ability to build and customize your own wasteland survivor settlements. You need to establish ways for survivors to collect food and water, set up defenses, and build structures you can decorate, kind of like a post-apocalyptic Animal Crossing.I can see many people including myself losing hours to this aspect of the game, and this mod makes it even bigger. By default, Fallout 4 limits how many objects you can place in your settlement. This mod removes that restriction. Basically, the only limit on how many things you can add to your settlement now is how many of them your computer can render at once.

Fallout Texture Overhaul Stars by GorgullaWhen your view isn't blocked by green, toxic storms, Fallout 4's night sky can look quite nice. This mod improves the view, upgrading the skybox resolution from 1k to 4k, and adding smaller and bigger stars that glimmer as you move.
English Strings for Fallout 4 by SeraphielThis one's for the anglophiles, or maybe British people who want to feel more at home. It changes the spelling of all words in the game to their British spelling, so just imagine what Fallout 4 would look like if you dumped a garbage bag full of vowels on it. Yeah, there's a mod for that.
NoPlayerVoice by adriant1978And finally, one of the most controversial changes in Fallout 4 is that it's the first game in the series where you can hear your character talk. You were always able to choose how your character handled a conversation, but this time around Bethesda hired a voice actor to speak those lines. Two, actually, since you can play the game as either a man or a woman. If that really bothers you, this mod makes the voice actors shut up, so you only see the text dialogue choices.
