Drone Makes It Rain $1 Bills in Park

I, for one, welcome our new money-dropping overlords.

Drones can carry cameras, they can carry packages, and they can carry cold, hard cash. Wednesday, a drone rained down money on a bunch of people hanging out at a park in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I haven't been able to track down the operator of the drone, and the grainy video from the ground you see here doesn't show much more than a bunch of thirsty kids running after the drone, but MLive has more details.

"It was hovering over the center of the circle and after a couple of minutes it dropped what appeared to be money," said Melvin Blohm, an MLive employee who was at the scene. "Once people realized the cash was real, they swarmed to pick it up."

He estimated that the drone dropped roughly $50 worth of $1 bills.

Not everyone was too thrilled about the stunt, however. Over on a drone enthusiast Facebook group I visit, several posters worried that the cash money could have brought the drone down, potentially injuring those on the ground.

"Truly stupid," one wrote. "If a couple of bills swirled above and returned through the roots, down it goes. We don't need irresponsible stunts like this."

"The stupidity continues," another wrote. "I hope they find that operator, confiscate his equipment, and levy HEAVY fines on his behind!!"

Not everyone was in a funkilling mood, however.

"Won't discredit other safety aspects but there's no way those dollar bills are taking down that octo," another wrote. "Not a chance."

Rain on, my drone friend. Rain on.
