As many as 15 million T-Mobile consumers may have had some of their personal data improperly accessed, the company has announced.
Experian, which processes some of T-Mobile’s credit applications, said that hackers managed to break into its servers, accessing T-Mobile customer data including names, addresses, and Social Security numbers. No credit card data is believed to have been improperly accessed, according to Experian.

“Obviously I am incredibly angry about this data breach and we will institute a thorough review of our relationship with Experian, but right now my top concern and first focus is assisting any and all consumers affected,” T-Mobile CEO John Legere said. “Experian has assured us that they have taken aggressive steps to improve the protection of their system and of our data.”
The data breach affects T-Mobile consumers who applied between September 1, 2013, and September 16, 2015.
Twist: A unit of Experian called ProtectMyID is offering the protection.
