The ‘Black Mirror’ Season 3 Trailer Looks Uncomfortably Like Real Life

The first full trailer for Black Mirror season three is here, and boy does it hit where it hurts.

For the new six-episode season, coming to Netflix on October 21, creator Charlie Brooker drills the near-future sci-fi dystopia even deeper, probing into how humans are using the technology that's outpacing our own evolution to destroy each other's happiness.

And given how quickly real life is becoming like the reality depicted in some older Black Mirror episodes, we'll be watching these new episodes with some sense of foreboding.

It doesn't look like Brooker took any of Motherboard's suggestions for new episodes, but we'll let that slide.

There's a lot going on in this trailer. We get a hint of embedded, augmented reality tech — the procedure device pulled up for a gaming system looks strangely like Google's Daydream View headset. But it's used to implant or alter something in the back of this poor dude's skull, and not strapped to the front of his face. This one's directed by Dan Trachtenberg, of 10 Cloverfield Lane.

A stroll through a greenhouse, or some type of farming complex, is reminiscent of the giant vertical farming complex in real-life New Jersey.

We also see a glimpse of something way, way too real, as a young man tells of how his computer's camera was hacked. Time to get the tape out and stick it on your own webcams.

Season 3 stars Bryce Dallas Howard as someone way too into her social feeds, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis as 1980s youths, Wyatt Russell, and Michael Kelly, who's back from House of Cards to unsettle us.

As one character says: "Didn't expect to find myself living in the future, but here I fucking well am." Indeed.
