A ’Roller Coaster Tycoon’ User Made a Ride with Functioning Wormholes

Now we’re thinking with portals.

A rather clever RollerCoaster Tycoon user posted a ride on the RollerCoaster Tycoon subreddit that seems to have broken the laws of physics. The gif below shows what appears to be a ride going inside a blue tunnel, only to pop out of a corresponding red tunnel instantaneously, just like in Valve's mind-bending first-person game, Portal. This portal coaster does this not only once but twice, like an in-game wormhole. Insanity!

RollerCoaster Tycoon has no built in wormhole features so what we're seeing is kinda breaking all the rules of the game here. Or is it? Let's see this ride's backbone by turning the scenery off, allowing us to see through the ground.

Peel back the curtain a little bit and you'll see this portal machine runs on lies, and an intricate set of tunnels that allow for incredibly perfect timing. The coaster's designer had to stagger the cars so just as you see one car pop into a blue tunnel, a second one pops out of a red. Nice.

If you don't believe it and have a copy of RollerCoaster Tycoon installed in your computer, you can see the portal coaster running in your own game by downloading a save file its creator has kindly provided here.
