Art Talk: Turning Dead Lottery Tickets Into Lamborghinis
When Ghost of a Dream have introduced their "Dream Car" and other of their sculptures, they have specifically attempted to match the price to the dollar value of each formerly-unscratched lottery ticket.
Ghost of a Dream is the collaboration of sculptor Lauren Was and painter Adam Eckstrom, a married couple who first met at Rhode Island School of Design and who now specialize in installation, sculpture, collage, and lottery tickets. To the pair, these colorful slips of paper and cardboard are the most abundant testaments to society's abandoned, failed dreams; they're also fantastically colorful. When they have introduced their "Dream Car" and other of their sculptures, mostly made of discarded lotto tickets, they have specifically attempted to match the price to the dollar value of each formerly-unscratched lottery ticket (i.e.$39,000 of lottery tickets for the Hummer “Dream Car”). Vice's "Art Talk" show met them at their studio a few months ago.
